In fall of 2014, Ben Nielsen made his dreams of business ownership come true by purchasing Skyline Automotive. Ben has over eighteen years of leadership experience in the automotive and retail service industries with a local automotive company. With a strong work ethic encouraged by his father while growing up on a sawmill and farm in Georgia, Ben has always had a big picture focus and built long-term relationships with his customers, always taking care of each individual's needs.Ben's business philosophy centers on the concept that the customer experience is the most important service that can be offered.
In general these folks were wonderful especially Eddie and his lead mechanic who went over my car. They were also good. I've been using Skyline Automotive for about four years for my antique cars and for my no-longer-owned 1997 Buick. They have been extremely professional and thorough with all the car maintenance and repairs.
If you're driving through Bailey's Crossroads or Falls Church and your battery light comes on, your alternator may be at fault. Or if your lights are flickering when you drive or your car won't turn over, your alternator may not be producing enough to recharge your battery. If you suspect your alternator isn't working quite right, have the alternator repair experts at Skyline Automotive check it out. Our experienced staff will determine whether the alternator needs replacement or if another component like the starter or battery is faulty.
Air conditioning does more than just cool your car in the hot summer months. It pulls moisture from the air inside your car during humid, rainy weather and helps your car's heater defrost your windows in the frosty winter months. The air conditioning system in your car loses about 5% of its efficiency every year, so even in normal conditions, it will slowly become less effective. For knowledgeable, reliable auto air conditioning repairs in Fairfax County, trust your car to the experienced staff of Skyline Automotive.

*update 5/9* changing to five stars due to the level of service provided. received a call from the owner letting me know they'd like to make it right and they did. I'm all for a business making something right and as such they get 5 stars from me. Really nice and helpful staff. Had a bad alignment last fall which they "fixed" the next day. Just had my tires serviced and apparently I've been driving with a bad alignment for months (per the tread marks) and have to pay for another alignment. Needless to say, won't be returning.

I have a Mini Cooper and my engine light came on in my car. Friend of mine recommended Skyline automotive to see Eddie to look at it. I stopped by the next morning and met with Eddie and he explained the process to me. He said he will look at it and call me back to let me know if anything was wrong. These guys took good care of my Mini. I recommend this place 100% guaranteed. They're very trustworthy and treat you like family. Thanks Eddie. Manar F.

My car was leaking coolant and I work in Falls Church, but live in Maryland. I was able to take my car to Ben Nielsen's Skyline Automotive on the spur of the moment, and spoke to "Eddie." Eddie got me right in and assessed the problem & called me. Gave me the opportunity to make the decision, which I appreciated! Took real good care of the coolant system for me & got me back rollin'.
Car is driving better than it was before! They did an awesome job @ an affordable price! Thanks Eddie and the rest of the TEAM! You are my "Go-To Guys" from here out! Thanks! Clayton W.

Have been using this wonderful auto repair shop for over 10 years and have experienced their commitment and passionate devotion to outstanding service throughout all these years. Recently, due to a required inspection and repairs for my car, I had to get my auto into their shop asap; but on the same day I also had to get to a early morning hospital appointment for arm surgery due to a previous accident. Pat, the Service Manager, stated "no worries, I'll have a driver from our shop drive you to the hospital after you drop off your car." Additionally, that same afternoon, Pat sent a car to pick me up at the hospital following my operation, and waiting for me at the shop, my car had been inspected with appropriate repairs.
What auto shop does this? Pat and his capable team, including Eddie always provide excellent customer service, that goes above and beyond. In addition, their work is prompt, professional and trustworthy. To this end, my whole family has been enlisted to bring their autos to Nielsen's for repairs- as Pat and his extraordinary team do a great job. I sincerely appreciate Pat's willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done.

They said they could diagnose what was wrong with my Audi. Five hours later at $165 per hour ($800+) they said they think it was the timing chain. The next day I took my car to the dealer. For $165 (one hour) they diagnosed what was wrong with my car. They found several things wrong and put in a report. In other words, the company are not experts as they say and charge more labor hours because they don't have the diagnostics. Additionally when I went to pick my car up it was not ready having caused me a wasted trip in a Uber.
They paid for my Uber home again and brought me my car but it was another charade of wasted time and money. Their ratings are good because it says on their reviews - if you are going to give us a review less than 5, please call us so we can rectify it.

As soon as Pat learned of my situation, he immediately reached out and assured me that he will personally see to it that my car issue is taken care of. I am very impressed and appreciative of the way he took care of things and provided me updates from the time he ordered the parts, when it was received and scheduling the appointment to install it. Installation of the parts also went well which goes to show that they really do care about their customers.
It reminded me why I chose to always go to them whenever I need something fixed in my cars for all the years that I have lived in DMV. Really great customer service - I wish I could give more stars! Thanks again Pat!

My 2014 Audi S7 needed new tires to replace the Michelins. Pat Hanson highly recommended the less expensive, but high quality, Continentals. OMG, they changed my driving experience--better road grip and handling, smoother ride! Kudos to Pat H, his knowledge, and his good recommendation. Service: Tyres

I don't ever leave bad reviews but Skyline is by far the worst mechanic shop I've ever interacted with. I called skyline based on their reviews of "Fair and honest" assuming they'd be different than the other mechanic shops you read about. I ask over the phone if there is a diagnosis fee, they said if it's a simple diagnostic without a road test involved we won't charge for that.
I already knew I needed a rear main seal replacement, I told them that. They gave me a price of over 2,000$(24 hours after dropping it off). The JEEP dealership was much cheaper than 2,000$. I thought skyline would be honest and fair. I then go to pickup my vehicle because I wasn't paying their outrageous price and I had to pay 165$ and all the description said was "There is oil built up around the bottom of the belt housing, used a boroscope to verify the rear main seal is leaking" I guess this doesn't qualify as a simple diagnostic? 165$ Later I got my vehicle back and the SAME JOB they claimed that is 2,000$ I'm getting it done for 1,100$.BEWARE and shop around before you settle for skyline. Waste of time and money dealing with them. 165$ an hour for labor is outrageous. A diagnostic doesn't take an entire hour to perform.

They charged me $400+ for a cabin air filter change. When the price of the parts are very transparent on the market and a different auto shop provides a much much less estimate for this service, I know I was over billed. Again, lesson and learn for me. I thought I had built a long term trust in this shop from a previous visit, but not anymore.

Super responsive and friendly service. This is my second time getting major work done on my car. They're reliable and have quick service. I'm not sure about prices because I don't know much about that. But the work I've had done on my car was very pricey. Chris even ordered a new key case and replaced it for me.

The work I've had done in the past has been great, but recently I've been entirely unsuccessful in getting an appointment. I submitted 4 online appointment requests in July and never once received an email or call to schedule apart from the generic "we've received your request" automatically generated response email. 2 of those times I was logged into my customer account as well. I know I simply need to follow up on the phone, but what good is an online system if it doesn't work?

I have lived in this area for many many years now, but I have never been able to find a place to take my car for consistently reliable and affordable service. Until now! These guys are absolutely amazing! First of all, I have some very serious medical problems that make it impossible for me to leave my home. This place is so kind and helpful to me.
They come here and get my car and return it here when the work is done. If that was the only thing they did that would be reason enough for me to give them 5+ stars! But there are so many other reasons. They do really excellent and affordable work on my car, and keep it safe and reliable whenever I am able to drive it, which sometimes is not very often.
They are extremely friendly and professional, and I know that I can always trust them. After 30 years of living in the Alexandria area, I have finally found the place for my car! Highly recommended! Five stars all the way!

If you need a mechanic shop in Arlington, this is the place. Not only did they give me the best price for the work I needed done, they include detailed inspections and pictures of the vehicle while it's being serviced, as well as recommended work that you might need to do in the future. But more importantly than being reasonably priced, the staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and kind.
A special shout out to Eddie who helped me with my vehicle, my one experience alone is going to be bringing me back anytime I need work done on any of my vehicles. Plus, they even dropped me off at my home after I dropped the car off in the morning! I've never seen a auto shop offer service like that! Amazing!

Ben Nielsen's Skyline Automotive gets 5 star rating from me. They really pampered my car by putting it on the alignment lift for an oil change to prevent any damage to my rockers which have been compromised by Sheehy VW twice. I'm sticking with this shop for my future maintenance on my car. Thank you BNSA!

In general these folks were wonderful especially Eddie and his lead mechanic who went over my car. They were also good enough to taxi me back an forth to the nearest metro station (Ballston) which sadly is not exactly close for anyone who is looking to hoof it. I would have given them 5 stars but I'm docking a star because they couldn't be bothered to clean off my wheels (lots of white residue that had dried up -- all it would have taken is a wipe-down) after they installed them at a cost of $158.
You would think they would have done so since I just bought a fresh set and I'm a first time customer. In my view if you do some work and you charge for it then you should be obliged to finish it/clean up the mess. With all the competition out there details count: It left me feeling slightly unappreciated. but it wasn't the end of the world. Alas, I live in an apartment building and it's not easy for me to clean my own car.
I made do with a dirty bucket of water at a nearby gas station -- it was better than nothing. I also didn't get the report on work that I had chosen to defer as promised but they told me that I should get it once Eddie returns from vacation: I was also hoping for pictures of the hairline crack in my bushings so I could have a better sense of what is going on. information is power

We have been using Nielsen's skyline Automotive for many years. As always they are most professional and courteous and "get the job done". In addition we get reliable feedback on all of the situations with the two automobiles and anything that needs to be fixed is done quickly. They are very trustworthy. We love the pick up and delivery service for our vehicled

I had my Jeep for death wobble in two different repair shop and they couldn't fix it. I went on the web and found Ben Skyline Automotive and read their reputation and many many people liked their honesty and great repair work. I took my Jeep there and Ms. Tracy was the most professional and helpful, she took me to the mechanic and explain what the problem was, the mechanic was also knowledgeable, honest and helpful.
They fixed my Jeep Death Wobble and they also found a few problems and pointed to me that must be fixed. I took the car for test drive and sure enough no more Death Wobble. I am going back there to fixed the other three problems with my Jeep. I love the way they treat their customer, from the beginning James, Tracy and Charlie ( I believe the mechanic name is Charlie) were nice, honest and straight to the point.
I am so glad I found Ben Nielsen's shop, I definitely recommend any one in Grater Washington are who truly needs a great Auto repair shop to go this shop. What pleasant experience, both my Jeep and I feel great. Keep up great job and may God bless all of you.

ALOHA! I just moved her to Alexandria from Hawaii. I shipped my car from Hawaii to here. After shipping my car it started to overheat on my first day of work. I used a small auto place near my work place (NOT Ben Nielsen's). They did fix the issue, but about a month later I was having issues with my car again. This time I was able to schedule with Ben Nielsen's and get the car fixed.
While working on my car they noticed a leak in one of the hose that was connected to a new part. They suggested to me to go back to where I had originally got the work done, and they would be able to simple fix the hose that they did not fix the first time. I found this advise extremely nice and thoughtful. I returned back to the original auto place, they did not know that I had been to Ben Nielsen's who gave me the knowledge of what needed to be fixed.
The original place quoted me 450 dollars to fix the issue. I told them that I had gotten advise from another shop (Ben Nielsen's) and they informed me that it was a simple hose fix. The original shop quickly retraced the quote and agreed with Ben Nielsen's that it was a simple hose issue, the new quote was $75.00. I wanted to say, that during this back and forth with the other auto place, I reached out to Ben Nielsen and spoke with Pat who remembered me from the past work. Pat was able advise me that I was not mistake by what he had recommend.
He was helpful during this whole ordeal. I ended up calling him twice in less than 5 minutes, just totally shocked at how the other auto company was trying to rip me off. They have earned themselves a lifetime customer for all future car issues, at how reparable, supportive, and transparent this company truly is. Keep up the good work!

It took a while to book an appointment but once I was able to bring my car in, the service was fast. The customer service was also kind and welcoming. Some may say the cost was overpriced, but I thought it was a reasonable price. Definitely gonna look to come here for more car services! Everything turned out perfect, I got exactly what I was looking for. This is the best place in town, to get your car repaired. The customer service was amazing.

These guys are pretty expensive. That said, I feel like they did the job I needed right. And I'd rather that than have my car explode a month from now with me in it. I drive a German car, which apparently has a European battery. Okay, fine, makes total sense. Mine's completely dead, and they didn't have it in stock, but were willing to order it and get it quickly.
Just to check my bases though, and possibly get it done that day, I called like the other top ten battery replacement spots on Yelp and none of them asked as detailed and pertinent questions as the guy who helped me out (super nice dude too). Also some of the people I called gave me what sounded like totally wrong answers from my four minutes of experience as a battery technician with only this guy's input and a YouTube tutorial under my belt.
Literally nobody has it in stock, except like AutoZone or one of those places, but they won't do the actual work because apparently they're not certified as professional enough (seriously? "What, would ya say you do here?") So, I sign the papers. Get a call with a quote their next business day that was higher than I expected (entirely possible the price of the battery at AutoZone or wherever was for the wrong battery, and labor was far more than I expected - but I do know modern German cars require some sort of programming after swapping batteries so that's almost certainly why).
We had a miscommunication about pickup, but they were cool about it. Long story short, got my car back - I think they threw in a free wash that it desperately needed - and it runs great so far. No death by fiery explosion so far. Great experience overall. Also they take COVID seriously AND didn't steal the emergency reserve of TP I left in the trunk where the battery is. I wish I knew the name of the guy I talked to, because he knew his stuff.

We have had nothing but positive experiences with Ben's shop; excellent customer service, rides home if needed, vehicle delivery, photos with explanations of issues and practical recommendations. Their posture during this pandemic is in keeping with our great experiences; contactless drop off and pick up, with a wipe down of all surfaces and the keys. Truly a class act.

I was very pleased when I first took my vehicle to Skyline Automotive because they were able to give me parts priced at 50% lower than a dealership repair shop was quoting me. Both my son and I had our vehicles serviced there several times. All seemed to be okay until recently, when I called to bring my car in. The owner sounded down and told me they were all booked up and to try the next week.
When I called back the next week, he said they were too booked up again, but I persisted in getting him to consent to taking a look at it. Unfortunately, my son had a medical emergency right after I hung up the phone, and I had to take him to the hospital and was not able to make it over. When I called the owner later that day to tell him why I didn't show up, he acted like he didn't have time to talk to me! He literally rushed me off the phone. If he has no interest in having my business and feels he can be rude to me, I have no interest in going back to his business.

Ben Nielsen's was recommended to me by AAA when my car became immobile on the highway. They were very helpful in getting my car back on the road. I had the crank shaft sensors replaced, the swag bar fixed and an oil change done on my Mercedes in a timely manner the day after 4th of July. Ben Nielsens answered all my questions clearly and promptly and emailed a detailed review of my diagnostic. I felt confident in their ability to make repairs and trust them with my vehicle.

Brought my vehicle in for new spark plugs as I could feel a misfire though no check engine light was on. I made an appointment and came in. Waited for an hour and a half thinking they were changing plugs when service advisor Nick returned with a $900 estimate for repairs. I was with my young child and we were both exhausted from being there so long.
I think that's why they felt comfortable doing this. The repairs were simply for new plugs and a fuel cleaning. The car's mileage was not high enough for this service, either. I ordered the repairs since I just wanted to get myself and child out of there and have my car in good health. Afterward, I called my father who is a mechanic out of state and spoke with the owner of a nearby shop- both opined that I had been ripped off.
The labor for these services is almost 3 times higher than average. They ended up keeping my car for nearly 3 days.and I went in for spark plugs. This is following my going in last month for an oil change and left with a $2500 bill for misc services. It's obvious I was taken advantage of. Will not return.

OUTSTANDING! Recently needed a bit of work done on my corvette. I don't trust just anyone with my vehicle and due to ground clearance issues, it's difficult to find a non-dealership shop to work on it, but the guys at Skyline demonstrated that they both cared about my vehicle, and understood the complications involved with working on it.
They were able to find a solution that enabled them to safely and efficiently work on the vehicle. In the office, I met with Dion, who was able to work me in even though they clearly had a lot of work going on. I then met Ryan, the mechanic, who took great care of my vehicle and fixed the issue effectively and efficiently. Through talking to him, it was evident that he both loves cars and takes pride in the work that he performs on them.
The customer service, environment, pricing, and quality of work at Skyline is phenomenal. If you're looking for these things in a shop, come here. You won't regret it.
