Nordic Motors

We have been going to Carl since 2015. He is the only one we can really trust with our 2018 Volvo 1998. Every time I go for Smog test, the mechanics are so amazed at how good my car is still running. We got a 100 mile towing service so we can get the car towed to Redwood City if ever we run into problems. We haven't so far had to do that. Carl is also very easy to talk to, and he knows European cars inside and out.

I wanted to share that recently I took my 2018 Subaru Outback to Nordic Motors for a Service. I highly recommend that one can feel confident that your car will receive a lot of attention to detail. First off, I read that this mechanic had very good reviews on NextDoor in regard to working on Subarus and Volvos. Carl, the owner, was very genuine & polite which I happen to find very refreshing these days!

These are the items they inspected & took care of regarding my car's Service. Completed the Synthetic Oil change, filled washer fluid. The Fuel Injector was cleaned and the Cabin Filter was replaced. Carl notified me that my Outback needed a new set of rear brake pads but that the front brakes were fine. Nordic Motors also inspected Rotors, Calipers & Brake lines.

The car was also taken for a Test Drive! I am confident that my Subaru with 47K miles is well cared for & will continue to be from here forward as I will definitely return to Nordic Motors Inc.

Exceptionally professional & competent. My car is a 31 year old classic Saab, they sourced the part that I needed, ordered and installed it. Now we're working on planned repairs/restoration. Took my wife's C30 here a couple months back. We got regular maintenance done. Price was reasonable and Nordic did not try to upsell or add unneeded work like the dealership has always tried with us. Very straightforward and quick service. We will come back!

Extraordinary service. Carl and team will help in any emergency and keep your vehicle in proper service for very reasonable prices. I have been going there for almost 20 years. My last Volvo lasted until 250k miles!

This place was recommended to me years ago, and I took my Volvo there. They were great. Thorough, honest, fair, kind. I moved to San Jose and it was a bit far to go, so I went to a Volvo specialist in Campbell. I didn't find them to be as competent and thorough, though very nice and good customer service. It turns out that Nordic Motors is just a 10 min walk to the Cal-Train station, so it made it easy for me to get close to home. I was happy to return to them recently for service, and repairs to A/C and brakes. Still thorough, honest, fair and a pleasure to work with.

This is probably the best car mechanic I've ever found. The proprietor (Carl) is not only a really nice guy, but he seems like a truly honest person: rather than finding ways to over-charge (like some less-scrupulous mechanics do), he finds ways to *save* me money. Being on a budget, I REALLY appreciate that! They have extensive experience working on European cars, which is great for me as I drive a BMW Z-3.

The service is always fast and the work is high quality.honestly, I can't think of a single negative about Nordic Motors. It just gets an A+ grade all across the board. Thanks Carl!

We have been taking our Volvos to Karl for at least 25 years, and he has gone the extra mile for us so many times. Years ago when I was having trouble with repetitive strain injuries to my arms, he shipped my car's steering mechanism to the factory in Sweden to have it modified, and didn't charge me a cent for his efforts. And he was the second person we called, after my insurance company, when my car was totaled in an accident. Karl is scrupulously honest, a rare trait these days. It is wonderful in this world where so many things can go wrong, to have someone you can always depend on. Thank you, Karl!

Carl is the best. He has not only serviced our Volvo but when we were far away on a trip, he was even able to remotely diagnose an issue that brought us home safely. He then did the more permanent repair. The work is always excellent and prompt. They always deliver on their promise.

Carl is so pleasant to deal with! Flexible schedule for 30K service. Great work. great prices. I won't go anywhere else for my Subaru!

I've been using Nordic (Carl!) for years. We've had a series of Volvos, and he's always been polite, professional, and *very* detailed in explaining work that needs to be done, its importance, cost, etc. All work has *always* been done properly. And, he's also pointed-out potential issues (e.g. brakes getting worn) in advance. 5-stars :)

An update: Carl and his team are the best. I had a fuse issue and a door gasket that kept coming off. He repaired the fuse and didn't charge for the gasket. Wow. Great service every time that I come here.

Carl rocks! A dealer wanted to charge me nearly $3K to replace all the fuel injectors. Carl decided this repair wasn't correct and instead replaced my spark plugs, which indeed resolved my "check engine" light, all for just a few hundred dollars. He kept the car a few days to make sure the "check engine" light wouldn't return. Quality and honesty -- Nordic motors is my default Volvo mechanic now!

I'm very happy I found Carl and Nordic Motors a few years ago! I had been going to another Saab mechanic in the area, where I always felt like I had to be on my guard against last minute additions and upcharges. Carl is the opposite. He is very knowledgeable about Saabs and a really nice polite man. I trust him completely. He tells me exactly what needs to be fixed and what I don't need to worry about yet. There's no surprises.

Our Mini Cooper had a check- engine light and could not pass the emission test for renewing the car registration. Carl provided an estimate over the phone. We took the car in and it was repaired quickly with no issues. Carl honored our request for a contactless service, and even had our car washed after it was repaired. Fantastic service, honest price, and friendly no-pressure experience. We found Nordic Motors to be a great place for taking care of our car and enjoyed dealing with Carl.

Carl has done a great job restoring our recently purchased used Volvo to a good working condition. He has always been accurate in his estimates and does his best to get parts quickly to return the car as needed. His prices are fair and he's been willing to work with us if we want to use a more affordable part. Plus, he is always friendly and professional. We're grateful to have such a good mechanic!

We received courteous, prompt and accurate engine service on our Volvo S60 this week. The timing belt was up for renewal after 8 years. Carl and his team do an excellent job. The facility is spotless. The lobby/waiting area is clean and quiet. This was our second service visit to Nordic Motors - it was as pleasant as the first one. We expect to be back to Nordic for another visit whenever the the car needs it.

Thank you, Carl, for being there! Nordic Motors is just the best place to take your Saab or Volvo for service. Not only are they great mechanics, they are also really nice people, and that is a combination that is hard to beat. We have been taking, first our Volvo 122 and 244, and now our Saab 9000, to Nordic for many years, first at the San Carlos location, and now in Redwood City. Carl, you and Nordic Motors are the greatest!

Carl and his team are the best! They are good at what they do and are honest. I have been taking my 2004 V70R there for a few and have had nothing but great, fast service at reasonable prices. Carl is honest. I highly recommend his business. I'm sad to say that I no longer have my Volvo, but I won't hesitate to bring other cars here for work that I cannot do myself.

Carl was able to diagnose that I had a faulty water pump and quickly repaired my Volvo. Another shop told me I needed a new engine or to scrap the car! Obviously I will have my car serviced by Nordic Motors in the future. Carl was superb and updated me on the progress of the repairs. He took a stepwise approach in order to determine only the work that was needed. I highly recommend Carl and Nordic Motors!

Carl is THE most honest mechanic! He will tell you what is recommended, and what he really thinks is necessary. I have a 2008 Volvo XC90. It's getting up there. Carl has always been friendly and punctual and I never feel like I am being taken advantage of. I will not take my car anywhere else!

I have been going to Nordic Motors for the past 20+ years and wouldn't even consider going anywhere else. Carl is, without any doubt, the most honest, caring, knowledgeable and trustworthy man I have ever met and he would rather "cut off his arm" than mislead or take advantage of another human being. His crew is exactly like him! I totally agree with Nancy J who wrote that Carl is" one of the last bastions of true service from the heart possessing expertise from dedication to knowledge!" Echoing other drivers' compliments about Carl & his excellent reliable courteous consistent team. It is the only certified SAAB service shop in the Peninsula besides B & B SAAB in conjunction with Volkswagen dealer down in Sunnyvale. The reason for a 4 star is b/c it's a small independent shop so customers need to either find a ride or rent a car to go somewhere if no time to wait.

And to no fault of the shop, the SAAB headquarter only offers a new "limited life time warranty" to certain parts at its designated dealership which there are only 2 in SF Bay Area including the Sunnyvale one (the other one is up in the City) so if my SAAB gets serviced @ Nordic, I can't claim the warranty! You can say that it's getting harder & more expensive to keep an aging SAAB that is no longer in production.

In fact, it's been a $ drain. I have followed Carl's shop from a smaller location in San Carlos to the current more spacious one in Redwood City. I have a 16 years old SAAB 9-3 which has not been aging well. Whenever it has small problems, I'd drive over to have Carl look at. I see lots of Volvo's there. You are in good hands with trustworthy Carl & his team.

What's not to love? One of the last bastions of true service from the heart, expertise from dedication to knowledge, and fairness. just plain inbred in Karl! 220 K miles & running on my Volvo. I keep looking for an excuse to replace it. Bought it used at 86 K miles and discovered that the all wheel drive feels all the bumps in California roads.

But I test drove a newer & very nice Volvo; it didn't feel as solid. So like me, I'll stay with the old school version; as thanks to Karl ( + Kim. & those capable nice guys in the back) it's still my "luxury car" (& great coffee!) NanJan

Carl is a very honest man, he is always smiling and is very positive as well, not like your average garage shop owner. I have worked with him a few times over the last 10 years or so, and have always had a great experience and felt that I was given the right information and the right price. Thanks Carl for always doing such a great job.

Must be some of the best mechanics in the Bay Area, specializes in Swedish brands Saab and Volvo. Carl is very professional and personal at the same time. I've been coming here for different reasons 5-6 times and always feel well accommodated.

SO THOUGHTFUL I was continually impressed by Karl and the rest of the staff at Nordic Motors. They are kind, reliable, affordable, and incredibly honest. They were there for me from routine oil changes to sudden panic when scary warning lights came on, and handled everything gracefully and expediently. I was genuinely sad about buying a reliable Korean car (when I traded in the BMW X5 which Nordic had been repairing for years) because it means I won't be able to see Karl and patronize this fantastic business anymore.

But even Karl had told me the BMW was a mistake.; ) Hopefully my next car will be a Volvo so that I can return! Anyone who drives a car made in northern Europe and lives in San Mateo County should absolutely be a client of Nordic Motors!

This shop was recommended by a friend who has used them for many years and was very satisfied with their knowledge and honesty. Took the Volvo in for a shifting problem, I spoke with Carl over the phone regarding the issue and discussed the error codes with him so I could get a sense of what this repair might cost. I took it in and it was repaired promptly and runs great.

It should be noted that another mechanic at another shop had misdiagnosed the problem and quoted me $1200 more than Nordic motors. Fortunately I went to Nordic saved money and it's fixed. Thanks Carl.

Wonderful. We have been taking our Volvos here for 30 years. The quality of service is superlative, and Carl is just such a good person. He inspected a used Volvo we were thinking of buying for free (and told us not to buy it because it had some weird electrical modification). I cannot say enough good things about this place, and how often do people love their mechanics? If you have a Saab or a Volvo and want peace of mind that you are getting really good service and from a really nice person who charges totally fairly then come here.

We take our Volvo and Saab to Nordic. Carl and his team are excellent in their professionalism and the work that they do. They are very knowledgeable. I know I can always get an honest answer on a certain repair job (rather than other mechanics that simply are looking to make your money). This is the only place I trust to do work on our Swedish cars. The prices are very reasonable, I highly recommend it.
