When I (John Whalen) first started as a mechanic I worked on tractor trailers and heavy equipment. Safety Tips From Whalen Automotive Report

What is the right amount of space to leave between my car and the car in front when stopped at an intersection? You should always be able to see the rear wheels of the vehicle in front of you. If you pull too closely you lose sight of the rear wheels and your vehicle is so close that you cannot maneuver out of the way if the car behind yours is going to hit your car.

It's vital for me to know that I have a good, reliable mechanic who can fix car malfunctions and help me maintain my car in good condition. Being able to get my snow tires on before the weather really gets bad makes me feel safe and confident on the road. This shop has become part of my "support network" -- the people and resources that we count on year in and year out. Update: Before I got my new/certified pre-owned car, I found this shop on the Car Talk website, in a list of recommended local mechanics. As the CRV aged, Whalen's came to the rescue twice for emergency fixes - in one case, addressing a problem created by a defective part from a local auto parts store. I was new to the shop then, but they treated me like a valued customer with an emergency need. That's when I decided to stick with them permanently.
