Broken Ignition Key Removal
Report
Keys are usually kept in the pocket or a bag and together with other keys and after a while, the wear and tear can weaken them. Keys sometimes break in the ignition switch and if this happens it is always a good idea to call a professional locksmith immediately and not to try to remove them by yourself. Professionals have the right tools to do this as well as the experience and if the key is not extracted properly from the ignition it could cause a great deal of damage to the switch, which itself will have to be replaced.
Transponder Key Reprogramming
Report
Transponder keys are very common today, their purpose is to protect the car against theft. These smart car keys contain a chip which is programmed to respond to the computer in a specific car, allowing the engine of the car to start. The technician will reprogram your transponder key if there is a problem with the key or if you’re key has been lost and must be replaced.

Do not use them. Shady as can be. it was obvious from the moment I opened the door. This guy was radiating bad juju. But to begin. After arriving 2 and half hours late after telling me he would be there in 20-30 minutes 3 times with zero apologies. His assessment was that it would be "at least $700" to rekey 4 doors. He said I have the hardest locks in the business. (they were standard kwikset deadbolts from home depot) Option 2 was he can replace all my locks with easier locks to rekey an make them uniform for $429.
I said since my home warranty is going to reimburse me, I want to check with them and make sure they will cover $429. I requested to leave me with the quote and I would follow up. He was clearly upset by that and said "fine, but it's going to be a $50 service fee". I said absolutely not. He ended it with "fine" and walked away refusing to leave a quote. 30 minutes after the technician left, I get a call from their office asking me if I still want service. what a joke.

Would not recommend to anyone. They will charge you whatever price they want to onsite. They have no formula or way of estimating how much it will cost for the service, even if they aren't successful in helping you they will still charge you. They dont tell you an estimate of the cost or a quote even if you pay them to come out &look at it first. They also involve the time spent as part of their fee, not just the service itself. So if they feel like taking their time, youll be paying 8 hours for something that couldve possibly taken 2 hours.

3 words. Price Switch SCAM. Was given a "starting price" of $54 and the guy who showed up wanted $120. Also, the dispatcher for this company gave my girlfriend's credit card information to the tech, including full name, credit card number, expiration date, and security code. If you live in Farmers Branch, the fire department will unlock car doors for free. Emergency or not. Don't waste your money. Also, if a tech from Avenue Locksmith shows up, don't trust them either. Make no mistake, there will NEVER be a next time.

Rip off. My mom hired Top Gear to re-key 4 door locks in her house. They charged her over $600! She thought it sounded high but the locksmith told her that was the standard charge. She trusted someone that took advantage of her. In addition, the company rescheduled her appointment more than once. The man that showed up was not the locksmith that said he would do the work. This made her feel uncomfortable while he was at her house as well as worrying her that a stranger might be able to unlock her locks.

I went to Top Gear locksmith as a 2nd opinion to the locksmith around the corner. I had an original remote key and another key I picked up from the junkyard. Wanted to see if I could get the 2nd key to work. If not, we were prepared to spend the $2xx for a new key. The first locksmith spent a few minutes trying to get it to work and said they couldn't. Returned my original key, fully working, and the second key. Called TG and they sent someone out.
Couldn't get the key to work either, but also couldn't get my original key to work properly. Said someone would be out the next day to get it back working. The second guy shows up and proceeds to work on it. Says that he got the other key to work, but not my original key. The whole point was to have 2 working keys. Wanted to charge me $1xx for having just the one key working.
It escalated after that because 1) my original key didn't work and he made excuses saying it was dying anyway and it just so happened to die with them working on it; 2) Putting my second key in his pocket and refusing to return it. If they couldn't fix my original key so that I could have 2 working keys, undo whatever you did and give me back my key; 3) Trying to sell me a new key.
I also learned that they contract out work vs having an employee. The locksmith hit my phone out my hand when I tried to take his picture bc he wouldn't give me his name and drove off. Left his equipment in my car and used the key he made to come back to my car to look through it. Police were called and I got my key returned, wiped clean. All while this was going on, I kept calling Top Gear and not a single person returned my call or got back in touch with me.
They did absolutely nothing. They contract out their locksmiths, and in the event of a problem, the leave you to handle it on your own. I ended up going back to the locksmith around the corner and got 2 working keys for the price of one and they could never undo what Top Gear did to my original key. Never recommend their service.

Apparently, when you give them a call - you automatically owe them $40 if you happen to give them your card number. I called my landlord after I called these guys to confirm with him too - and he said he was going to bring is own people to change the locks. So I had to call Top Gear back and tell them I had to cancel. On our previous conversation the guy I spoke to DID NOT state anything about cancellation fees.
He only stated they had a service fee of $40 and on top it would cost and additional $65-95 to change the locks. When I told him he did not disclose me anything about a cancellation fee - because we still haven't spoken with his technician - I told him he cannot charge me for just a 4 minute phone conversation. I'm calling my bank to dispute any charges from these people. If you were here at my door - you were right. But just to tell me how much it would cost, get my card and address information - should not cost money.

Very Good Service! I was having problems getting somebody who could even make keys to my car. Locksmith was fast and very professional. He had all the tools and I was back on the road in 20 minutes after he arrived. I was very pleased with the service and would not hesitate to use them in the future
