In March of 1967 Gayle Nilson decided to use his vast automotive experience to start Freeway Auto Service in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. The first 17 months as a general repair shop were very successful, and the future looked very bright. In August of 1968 Freeway Auto Service suffered a significant setback when Gayle was severely burned over 75% of his body. Due to Gayle's perseverance, a few dedicated employees and family support Freeway Auto Service was able to overcome this immense challenge and evolved into the successful company that exists today as Freeway Transmissions. In the early 70's, Gayle decided to use the expertise of his labor force and expert in transmission fixing. Freeway became a well respected firm and built a name for itself along the Utah Wasatch Front. In the late 70's Gayle's insight and inspiration led to the development of a customized remanufacturing process that produced quality transmissions on a volume basis. This successful remanufacturing process is still utilized today.
The remanufacturing procedure spawned the growth of Freeway Transmissions beyond the valleys of the Wasatch Front to several states in the Intermountain West. Freeway's wholesale and retail operation were based entirely in its centralized downtown location until 1988 when growth necessitated the need to expand. An additional fixing facility was opened in Murray, Utah on 900 East just North of Interstate 215 and still exists there today.
In 1991, a partnership started the Torque Converter Company on 400 South in downtown Salt Lake City. The firm started remanufacturing a wide variety of torque converters as a complement to the already successful transmission venture. Due to the growth of both the transmission and torque converter company, a decision was made to consolidate both remanufacturing processes in the same building. In May 1997 Torque Converter Company moved and was followed by Freeway Transmissions seven months later to our current facility on 1700 South in Salt Lake City. This 45,000 square foot location exists today as Freeway's Production Center and Corporate Headquarters. The original location on 600 South remained in operation as a repair facility.

Mark has been the President of Freeway for the past 10 years. Prior to his promotion, he worked at Freeway for 17 years. His responsibilities were many and varied through the years including ordering parts, diagnosing vehicles, delivering parts, taking phone orders, helping customers at the counter, customer service, all aspects of Accounting and Human Resources. In addition, he was trained in all aspects of running a transmission business. Mark graduated from Murray High School in Salt Lake County and attended the University of Utah on a full-ride baseball scholarship. While at the University, Mark majored in Economics. Mark has been married for 20 years and is the proud Father of three children.

These guys stuck with me through everything. I had so many questions about my 4L60E/Transfer case install, and they were exceptionally patient and forthcoming with information and guidance. Never once did I ever feel like I made mistake doing business here. These guys made me feel welcome in their place of business, and I was always happy to come in and visit with them.

I was on a road trip last year, from Reno to Florida. I made it to Salt Lake City when my transfer case broke. I was recommended by a nearby shop to this shop. They fixed my transfer case in two days, pulled me out of a pinch, and the work they did is still holding up today. I couldn't recommend this place more highly. Grateful for their quality service. I was really pleased with my experience at Freeway Transmission. They diagnosed the problem really quick and made sure they got my truck fixed quickly. When first calling they were helpful in giving me a rough estimate of what cost I may be looking at. They also helped recommend some other repairs that needed to be done.

This place is awesome. I highly recommend them for any transmission issues you may get to experience. I will mention I knew I was "leaving" my vehicle here for a while. They are normally very busy and very good about the service they provide. This is not normally going to allow them to be super fast. I received multiple phone calls as they proceeded with pictures and good descriptions of the issues identified.
They explained what they would be accomplishing in decent detail and the effective price. Due to the amount of work being done and the time it had taken, I was really pleased with the overall price for the repair. Very happy with the way my truck is no longer leaking. Pictures are of the drive line that had been smacked hard at some point in the past and the leaking transmission before they started to fix it.

I brought in my vehicle to this location for a leak that I had from my transfer case for some time and for a couple other leaks as well that were not as major as the one with the transfer case and to see what they would find and made sure it was what I had noticed as well which was told and given a price for to fix the leaks! I would have given a 5 star, when the transmission was service for the leak of the shifter and the drain pan would have had the price to fix it, how ever Dan didn't have the cost for it to be fixed or replaced at that time he called to inform me and what to do I said I will hold off on it till a little later for me to get a little more cash flow.
I was great full and pleased about my other car transmission being rebuilt at this location instead of the other one one, since this is where they have there shop at instead of having to ship it to another location to rebuild either transfer cases or transmissions. The customer service desk person i felt was lot more friendlier at this one then one of the other stores that I went to and I am glad that not one time did he bring up or mention anything about my other one.
I just might change the stars on the other one for my satisfaction on the workmanship which I am still pleased about, but not for the customer contact point and pressure! Hopefully I will come back to this location for my transmission to be either rebuilt or replaced in a couple of months when my funds for it allows me to do so and I don't get pressured for my other review when I pick up my vehicle and have a price for it, labor and parts.

Look no further than taking your vehicle to Freeway Transmission. My Hyundai dealer told me I would need a new transmission and quoted me shockingly high price. I brought it to Freeway Transmission and they were ran some tests, pulled codes and gave me a breakdown of repairs. Dan communicated with me well, was honest, pleasant and they got me back on the road quick at almost half the price as I was quoted from the dealership.

Nate and Dan were upfront and transparent. Great guys and good customer service. Had them do a clutch replacement on my firebird. I was super busy so they just handled the job, got the car towed in for me and got right to work on it. It's my fun summer car so I was super happy with how quickly they were able to get things done for me. These guys definitely did a great job in a timely fashion and kept me updated along the way.
Fair pricing and they never tried to create problems with the car that didn't exist. All in all some good honest guys who will do a good job for you. I would definitely recommend them if your in need of any work being done.

Had a 2003 Honda Civic that needed a clutch replacement. These guys were quick, communicated very well, and found more problems with my car that they fixed for me, since they were already digging around in there. I think they saved me about $300. They were nice, and the clutch in my car is still working swimmingly. I recommend these guys for all clutch/transmission work. Excellent customer service, and speedy repair. Overall, just a great shop.

I was so stressed out when my car stopped moving all of a sudden! I called, and a man named, Larry answered the phone he was very friendly! He understood my concern. Larry had my car towed to Freeway Transmissions Shop. When they checked out my car they found a cooler line failed, repaired it, and had me on the road the very next day! and for less than $200 I am very pleased with their exceptional service. I highly recommend Freeway Transmissions to all my friends and family. And anybody who wants fast friendly, and honest service!

Freeway saved me from a financial nightmare!!!! I cannot thank them enough. I had a weird noise coming from the front of my car and was told it would cost over a thousand to be fixed. When i took it to Freeway they figured out the problem quickly and it cost me under 100 bucks! Special thanks to Larry and team for being so helpful, friendly, and honest!

I had a great experience with freeway transmissions and clutches thay gave me a good price on a stage2 custom cluch and it works great and thay went through the hole thang and replaced every cluch component And even put new fluids in it great customer service. Since 2008, I have taken my personal vehicles, my son's car (while he was at Basic Training), and now all the cars from my business to the shop in West Jordan, UT. I get outstanding service from Keith and his team. They always diagnose the problems quickly and accurately, then give me options to get me back on the road.
