Ponte's Auto Care is a family run business that has been serving the Wilmington area since 1968. Jim's Father opened his First Auto repair shop in Philadelphia in the late fifties all along knowing that one day he would return to his home in Delaware. In the mid sixties he finally returned to his roots and opened shop in Wilmington where Jim started his automotive career attending automotive technical schools and honing his skills, all the while being mentored by his father.When his father fell ill and was no longer able to operate the business, Jim took over and moved the shop to the concord pike.
Our auto repair shop is conveniently located in Wilmington, DE. Our quality ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified mechanics at Ponte's AutoCare employ today's latest automotive technology and are equipped to handle all major and minor auto repair services on foreign and domestic vehicles. Experts recommend changing the oil and oil filter in your vehicle every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever is first.

The air conditioning unit in your vehicle operates similarly to a refrigerator. Your vehicle's air conditioning unit is designed to move heat from the inside of your car to outside of it. The refrigerant carries heat. In modern cars, refrigerant is a substance called R-134a. Older cars' refrigerant is called r-12 freon, which is more expensive and difficult to find than R-134a.

I've been going here for 12 years. Spent a lot of money in this place. I thought I'd get a little more respect and service for that reason, but basically they didn't want to help one bit. This place is definitely not what it used to be. I took my car elsewhere and got done what I needed. Thanks for the 12 years. Ponte Over one month ago and no response. No email. Nothing that's quality customer service. Baby

I was on the road for my employment, when I noticed my tire was almost flat. Not being from the area, I just googled auto centers and found Ponte's. I explained my situation to a gentleman named Mark, and he told me to come on over and they would put air in my tires. He greeted me right away, and had one of the service men fill it up. While filling my tire, the serviceman noticed a nail in it.

He asked me if I would like him to patch it, that it would only take 5 or 10 minutes. I was so grateful for their help, as I am on a timed schedule with my job. Service above and beyond is what it's all about. Thank you.

I can not speak highly enough of John. I called to get an estimate for work that I know I need done on my Jeep. I was told an amount for the cost of the work by Jeep dealership, thought it seemed a bit high. John took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me, looked up the cost of parts & figured out the cost, which turned out to be similar in cost as the dealership.

He was also very straight forward in explaining why he recommends that the work be completed at the Jeep dealership vs his shop. We also reviewed the possibility of selling or trading my Jeep in & what make & models he recommends as good quality vehicles. Also gave me recommendations as to where to have my Jeep appraised. He absolutely went above & beyond what was asked of him & I can't thank him enough for taking the time to be so thorough, kind & honest.

One of the best businesses I've ever dealt with. The mechanics are very knowledgeable and professional. Both of the front office guys, Mark and John are extremely polite and informative. The owners are usually around to keep things running smoothly. Much much better than a dealer or a chain.

The first time I used this business was perfect. Needed with service and they provided it. Got in same day, got the car back same day. I suppose this could have been coincidence, but that didn't matter too me at the time. They were progressive and helpful. 5 star

First, let me give you the good news. They are very friendly. They sometimes do things for little or no charge. I had been going there for about 10 )))years; one day I had a flat because of a nail in a tire and they repaired the tire for no charge. Awesome. Unfortunately, the consistency of service is a bit disappointing. I took my car to have the oil changed. Usually, they change the oil and check the fluids, like every other company. Unfortunately, I would discover in a few weeks that one or more fluids (usually the anti-freeze in the radiator or window washing fluid) was unusually low.

A bit sloppy. What finally forced me to change to a different company was their ability to create $1000+ problems. If you own a car for a long time and realize it is near the end of its usefulness, you expect to encounter potentially expensive problems. However, when you say you are thinking about getting a new car and they recommend you invest in the repairs because the car should be good for another 50,000 miles, then 4 months later say you need to pay another $1500, it is concerning.

When you take the company to another one that charges you $200 to fix the same problem, it is very disappointing. When you take the car to have 1 tire change and they refuse unless you buy 4 new tires, that is irritating, especially when you later learn that most other companies will change that or 2 tires (if both front or both rear tires are in bad shape, you really need to replace both), then it is very irritating. So, if you need your oil changed, go ahead. If you have a serious problem, consider shopping around.

I have been taking all my vehicles to Ponte's for several years and I have been consistently pleased with their work, level of service and pricing. Recently, I had an issue with one of my vehicles and they were persistent in identifying the problem and were able to resolve the issue. I trust Ponte's and will continue to have them perform the service on my vehicles.

Amazing amazing amazing! I went to Ponte's to get my ac check and the men there were awesome! They were informative and explained the services to me in a way that i could understand. They made me feel comfortable, took their time to check out my car, finished in a timely manner, and I didn't drive away feeling like i got ripped off. Not to mention my ac is BOOMING! I will def be coming back

Man, what a trip you're in store for if you come to this place. I am not surprised AT ALL about the review from James and the "manager" Chris. Dude seemed like a total scum bag. This is by far the worst shop I've ever had the displeasure of having to go to. My car had to be towed, and unfortunately, this was the closest option that the tow company could get me to.

Without a doubt, they are "diagnosing" extra issues to charge you more than actually required. After I realized, I wanted to take the car somewhere else, somewhere I trusted a whole lot more. Chris got angry, offended, and got a huge attitude. Was going to charge me $100 for looking at the car, so I said screw it, and paid for the extra services (highly doubtful they were required) because my car was inoperable. Also, was never told I was going to have to get an additional key for my car, after the ignition cylinder was replaced. Sure, it may be common knowledge for somebody who knows cars, but if I were knowledgeable, I'd be PISSED if I showed up to get my car, and I now have a separate key for my ignition and another for the door lock.

Just saying. This place is terrible. Just push your car to another shop before going here. *** Also, if you look at the filtered reviews, you'll see even the owner is trying to leave fake 5 star reviews for his own business, HA! ***

I'll keep this brief - I had AC issues for 2 years - brought my car here, they fixed it. Took them twice, but they got it done. Had my car towed here - wouldn't start - this has been an intermittent issue for 4-5 years. Now thats fixed too. Prices are reasonable.

I have been have two automobiles serviced by Ponte's Auto Care for at least ten years and my experience has been nothing but 5 Star service. It is easy to make appointments and my vehicles are always ready at the agreed time. I have never had to go back with an issue. The staff is always courteous, polite and caring. I would recommend Ponte's to anyone desiring experienced and prompt auto service.
