I've taken our vehicles to Skay Automotive over the years. Even though our cars are usually covered for most maintenance by the warranty sometimes I need to have things checked and I rely on Skay for that. Their friendly knowledgeable technicians are really helpful. A great locally owned business to support.

Skay performed a general preventive inspection on my electric Smart car. I was able to get an appointment within a few days of calling, the staff (Brian) was friendly and professional, and I was pleasantly surprised at the price. Service: General repairs & maintenance

I don't think anyone actually researches mechanics before they need one, but we're the nerds who (thankfully) had a little bit of time to do some digging. We had a great experience at Skay Automotive last week. They had very favorable reviews on both Yelp! and Google, so we knew we needed to give them a try. Conveniently located within walking distance of our house; even better! We're still pretty new to the Iowa City area after moving here from Cedar Rapids a couple of months ago.

We were unable to get into our former mechanic back in CR because of a 3-week wait. This prompted us to tell ourselves that it was just time to find someone in Iowa City. Who wants to commute 40 minutes when you have a car issue? A tire on our Mazda CX-5 had a leak. My husband called Skay on a Tuesday and they were able to get us in for an appointment a couple of days later.

We dropped off the car the night before said appointment and used one of their overnight deposit envelopes for our key. Envelopes were great because you could fill it out according to what you wanted to have the mechanics inspect. Vehicle was ready to be picked up before 10am the next morning. The mechanic(s) pulled a screw out of my tire, repaired the tire and completed an oil change.

So happy my tire was saved! At our request they also checked the condition of our brakes. More than fair prices. We appreciated the breakdown of the services they performs and everything was printed on our invoice. The reviews are true! Skay will be our top pick for automotive repairs going forward. Highly recommend.

Brian Skay owns Skay Automotive and is fantastic. He gives accurate estimates to which he adheres. If the estimate is not going to be accurate, Skay will call and discuss it with you. We have all our automotive needs met with Skay. I would recommend Skay Automotive to anyone.

I trust Skay to be honest when it comes to what's best for my car. I always appreciate their insight and service, and have recommended them to anyone I know that's having car trouble!

I am originally from Iowa City, but hadn't lived there for years. I was in town visiting family, when the check engine light and a few others went on. I was hundreds of miles from home and it was about 4:00 in the afternoon. I stopped by this shop to see if they could help. I don't remember the guys name (Kyle maybe) who said they didn't have any appointments open until the following week.

With that said, he offered to come out and connect his computer up to my car to see what it said. The error was one where it was too difficult to determine the severity without opening it up. While I cannot speak to the quality of their work, I think that the friendly and helpful attitude says a lot about a place. These guys were awesome. I am so thankful that they went out of their way to do what they could. By the way, 15 minutes earlier I was in a different shop. they just said they were full up. I'm glad that Skay is not like the others. Thank you Skay.

Only take my truck here, oil change, ball bearings, anything! Always fit me in and do great work at reasonable prices, also very honest with you about the necessity of work and future potential work. Truck has A Lot of miles, I like to be prepared. They have forgotten to notify me when an oil change was done, but the phone works both ways and they are always gracious with customer service and answering questions. Highly Recommended!

They seem to know what they are doing, are an independent shop and seem honest, as in not pushy, not overselling, decent pricing and diagnosing stuff better than your average or below average chain autoshop. My previous independent shop spoiled me in how competent and knowledgeable they were, but I had to move, & so far, Skay seems to hold up to my previous place so they've got this going for them. I'm only loyal in as far as the people I deal with are loyal to me. So far so good.

This is the best place to take your vehicle. TJ is my favorite mechanic that works there. He is trust worthy, honest and fair. He found repairs I needed on my Toyota Rav 4 that he could have just fixed and charged me, but instead took the time to look up my warranty and suggested that I take it to Toyota to have them fix the needed things that were still under warranty. I have had TJ repair things on at least 4 different family vehicles over the years and completely trust him.

This is our first time getting work done on our Subaru at Skay Automotive. I'm very impressed with their friendly, fast, professional, and economical service. Very nice lounge and waiting area. Clean facility. Knowledgeable and thorough team of mechanics. They took care of everything requested: oil change, cabin air filter replacement, and tire rotation. They also went through the full 24,000 mile checklist recommended by Subaru. Nice!

Stopped in for some help with a stubborn, stripped screw on my license plate- found the auto center I'll be coming too from now on! Such a nice and clean shop and Brian was incredibly nice and helpful!

We chose Skay Automotive for recent auto repair because of their excellent reputation. Even beyond their excellent customer service and technical work, I was pleasantly surprised with their beautiful lobby. I chose to wait with my 4 and 2 year old children while they serviced my vehicle. I actually felt like I was in someone's home; it's that well-decorated and stocked with everything you could need!

The lobby was clean, bright and had a great selection of activities for kids (kid's area photo included). It was amazing. When we got in the car to leave, my kids kept talking about how much fun they had! Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

Completely amazing service and the lobby is beyond spectacular, uniquely decorated to suit the automotive enthusiast, making your visit warm and inviting with plently of space to work on your laptop while waiting. Tried to charge me $800 for replacing my ball-joints and wouldn't do my alignment. Only cost me $150 for everything at a different mechanic. Don't come here, they will try and rip you off

Great shop! Brian and the rest of the staff do an awesome job of making sure your car gets taken care of without you getting overcharged. I'm moving across the country and am super bummed I'll have to start taking my car somewhere else.

With jiffy lube and Firestone overcharging the Iowa City market, I hope people will use the resources like YELP to find the real honest and great mechanics in the area. Skay is one of them. Been using him whenever I'm in town ever since I was 16 years old and brought in my Pontiac Grand Prix for a tune up. Just to give you and idea, he was able to do a synthetic oil change on my Cadillac CTS for $15-20 cheaper than Firestone and Jiffy Lube. He also tightened a ring for me free of charge (that the last Jiffy Lube botched). Make this guy your mechanic.

I will not take my car anywhere else. Skay gets the work done quickly and well. When they give you the estimate, that is exactly what they charge you (far less than any other mechanic) and they don't try to talk you into getting something done that doesn't need to be done. Skay is trustworthy, reasonably priced, and great at what they do.

When my wife's car blew out a rear brake line last year, I decided that despite my mechanical aptitude that I did not want to spend the better part of a weekend under her car. My neighbor worked at a body shop and spent a lot of time around cars, and he said that Ricky Skay's shop is the only one in town that he hadn't caught pulling a fast one on somebody.

We towed her car to the shop and within a day or two had the car back, good as new. Price for the repair was also fair. Skay Auto is where I'm going for repairs I can't handle myself from now on.
