I came with my boyfriend for a smog check we made and appointment and we were told to be here between 8am to 930 am. We came a little after 8am. We understand we had to get a ride but there was a big snow storm going on so our ride was unable to pick us up so we went in and gave them our keys and from the moment we walked in we got a bad vibe from the girl at the front so when we asked if we could just wait there for our car she rudely said no and that she already told us we needed a ride so my boyfriend and I were left to stand outside during a snow storm.
We went back in and asked if we could unlock the car and she gave us attitude again. We sat in the car and now it's closer to 9am and no one has even touched our car so we decided to go else where. The unprofessionalism of the lady was unnecessary she should be more understanding that there is a snow storm going on and it's a little more difficult to find a ride. At least offer us to sit inside while we wait for a ride. I will not be recommending Tahoe Diesel.

Horrible experience here! If you don't care about how they treat you.and now after reading reviews about their work, maybe skip this place. Kyle was a complete jerk the moment I met him. My husband had to reschedule our appointment for a new transmission at the last moment as another issue had come up. When my husband called to reschedule the appointment from Monday to that next Thursday, Kyle said we could bring it in but he would get to it when he got to it.
I brought the van in on Thursday at 8 AM and Kyle was very rude, telling me they would call me when it was done but they couldn't tell me when that would be. I stopped in the next day as my van hadn't moved from the spot I dropped it off at. Kyle again told me it would be done when it was done. Tim then spoke up and said they would start working on it that day, Friday.
It is the following Wednesday and I just picked up my van and Kyle proceeded to tell me what a piece of crap my van was. When I got my van home, I noticed oily, greasy foot prints on my carpet in my van. Again, they may do good work and maybe I caught Kyle in a bad way but I will not be taking my vehicles there anymore. I hope Kyle finds some happiness in his life, maybe a new job where he doesn't deal with the public.

I needed to get a vehicle smog check in order to register it. My husband called for an appointment and was happy to be offered one on a Saturday so he wouldn't miss work. Unfortunately, no one was there at the appointed time, nor were our phone calls ever returned. Why on earth did they make an appointment on a Saturday if they are not currently working on Saturdays? I should have listened when my friend told me her vehicle was returned with more problems then it had before routine servicing.

Brought the old rig ('92) get it smogged. Didn't pass one item, and requested TD4WD to effect the repair. They are an authorized smog repair shop, btw. Diagnosis & repair only took minutes, and it passed smog in the retest. TD4WD honored the free retest since they repaired the condition. And they went above & beyond to NOT charge me for the few minutes they took to repair the condition. Pleasantly surprised to find an honorable auto shop still exists. They require appointments and implemented COVD-safe practices. Give them a call for your vehicle needs. They're worth it.

The owner Kyle is rude and Disrespectful. I was there to drop off my Rv for a repair. I was told by the office person to go around to the shop and see him about a question a had. As soon as I walked in he gestured with his hand like he was shooing me away and said in an angry tone to go outside and wait til he's done talking with his mechanic.
I told him not to talk to me like that, took my rv and left. After reading other people's comments about this place I'm glad they didn't work on my vehicle. I think I dodged a bullet. I would complain to AAA as well. For those who have had botched repairs done by this place I recommend calling the California Bureau of automotive repairs and share your experience with them.

I've been going to Tahoe 4 x 4 for years, but this is the first time I've seen their Yelp add and wanted to be sure I put in a good word for this company. I've taken my Toyota Landcruiser, Ford Explorer and my Honda Element to them, so they're well versed in vehicles other than big 4 x 4's. They've been servicing my vehicles for over 20 years.
I don't know much about cars, but they've always fixed my vehicle for less than their original estimated price. They're not the cheapest in town, but I know I can trust them and that they'll fix the problem correctly the first time-- without gouging or adding fictitious repairs. I've been ripped off so many times by OTHER auto repair companies, but these guys have treated me right for over 20 years.
I use to live in Tahoe but moved to Gardnerville several years ago and I still take my vehicle up to them whenever I can. I've found them to be honest and trustworthy for a very very long time.

I would GIVE IT LESS THAN 1 STAR IF I COULD! I made an appointment over a week ago. When I arrive at 9am. two gentlemen were working. The larger gentlemen ask the younger gentlemen to put my stuff in the computer. I asked about how long it would be to change the differential fluid on my jeep and he said 2 hours. This is about a 20 minute job, but I said ok after having an appointment for a week.
I went back two and a half hours later the same larger gentlemen was sitting on a yoga ball in the waiting area(very small) speaking to a secretary or assistant. I ask if my Jeep was done and he said I believe so but give me 5-10 minutes to check. I walked outside and looked in my Jeep and the diff. fluid was still in the passenger seat. I then went back I and he was still sitting on a Yoga ball talking to the assistant.
I said well I just looked in the jeep and the fluid is still there so it's not done! He said well it will be a couple of more hours then! I then asked for my keys back and left without any apology from them about wasting my time and half day! The customer Service is very poor. not sure if the mechanics are any good, but I will not be finding out!
I will be contact AAA, NAPA AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS TO LET THEM AND PEOPLE KNOW. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE AS IT IS A DIVE/DUMP! Very unprofessional! Also it will not let you post a comment on their website and always goes back to excellent! DO NOT USE THIS PLACE

Stopped in for a routine smog check for my Subaru last fall and got an appointment within an hour. Also, my husband brought our Sprinter Van in for assistance reading an error code that kept displaying intermittently. They were very helpful and gave us good advice for following up on the error codes. Will definitely give them our business in the future.

We had an excellent repair service experience with Tahoe Diesel. Very professional and courteous folks. We needed to fix engine coolant leakage on a Saturday morning. We were from out of town and wanted to get back home on the same day. This was one of the few auto shops open in Tahoe on a weekend. When I went there they quickly checked the leakage and pulled my car in the service bay as I requested to fix them the same day.
They got required parts and stayed late to get the car on the road again. Their estimates were reasonable and final bill was same. My local Lyft driver also spoke highly of them. I recommend them for emergency or regular repair.

Towed my trailer to Tahoe and had differential oil all over the back of my truck and the front of my trailer when I got here. I also noticed a bunch of metal shavings In the case. I only had my campsite for 3 days and needed to get back to work in 4 days. I called this shop and they told me to bring it in first thing in the morning and they will get right on it in case they need to order parts.
I brought it to them at 8am on the dot the next morning and asked them to keep me posted on the extent of the damage so I can figure out where to sleep and how to get back to work if I need to. Not wanting to pester them, I waited until 4pm to call and figure out what was going on. They told me they were just getting to it now and would let me know ASAP.
I called back at 4:55, since they close at 5 and they told me I needed new bearings and they had to order them. My truck would be ready by Friday night or Monday morning. I stressed the issue that I could not stay for the weekend, and whatever they could do to get it ready by Friday, I would take care of. I would even rent a car and drive to pick up parts if need be.
They assured me it would be done as quickly as possible and they would keep me posted with all updates. Come friday, i still hadn't heard anything so I decided to call them again around 3pm and ask for an update. At this point they tell me they are not sure of the extent of the damage and would need to open it up to figure it out.seriously? What have they been doing with my truck the last 3 days?
They told me that they should just rebuild the whole rear end because they're not sure what's wrong and they could probably get it to me by next Wednesday. They also stated that my built, 3/4 ton diesel was not made for towing an 8k lb trailer and it was just a toy. Then they recommended to just fill it back up with oil and take my chances towing it home to a local shop who knew more about it, and i should be fine because it's mostly down hill.
After 3 days of having my truck, knowing the importance of the situation I was in, they simply filled it back up with oil, and charged me for 30 Min labor and a quart of oil. $165. I would never let these people touch my truck, and took his advice. I would rather take the chance of limping home my truck and trailer, and end up blowing it up and having both vehicles towed to a local shop, then to let these people touch my truck

Wish I could leave a zero star review. Asked for a diagnosis and estimate, got lip from the guy at the front desk. Three days go by and no response so I call to find out what us going on. They say they can't do the repair and it needs to go to a dealer in Reno. 2 hour drive latter and 1 hour after being in the waiting room at the dealer they come back and say the compressor is bad. Easy fix that any decent mechanic should have been able to find relatively quickly.

I had a really bad experience with these guys. I feel deep down like they tried to scam me. They took out my axel on my truck and told me the whole truck needs to go to the junk yard. I brought it in for a new brake line. It only has 100000 miles on it. I knew I should get another opinion. Turns out, with the help of a real honest mechanic I was able to reinstall my axle only to find there wasn't anything wrong with the 4wd system. all that the truck needed was a new brake line and rear drum brakes.
These guys told me I'm looking at $2000 minimum to get back on the road. With the right mechanic I was back on the road $400 later. Do yourself a favor and Don't go here.
