After working for dealers and other independents, Don opened business for himself in the summer of 1979 as Don's Service in Berwyn. In 1987, Don's Service relocated to La Grange, IL and D.M.J. Automotive was born. As with Don's Service, D.M.J. Automotive continues to provide quality service at fair and reasonable prices.

Only take my cars here - fair prices, great service and quick turnaround. Took my car there after days at the dealership and an outrageous quote and Jeff fixed the issue quickly for a reasonable price. He assisted me in planning out when to have certain repairs and maintenance performed. He may not be he most socially friendly guy, but he can tell what's wrong with the car when I describe a sound over the phone.

I've always had an excellent experience (10 or 15 years or more) and find Jeff and his shop to be honest, knowledgeable and reasonable. In fact, one time I was in the waiting area and witnessed an exchange that gave me even greater confidence. A woman came in looking for an inexpensive used car for her teenager. She said Fullers, a local auto operation, said to check with Jeff due to his honesty and knowledge of cars that customers might want to sell. So DMJ's has an excellent reputation with other people in the auto business as well!

Stay away! They dont take pride in their work. Spent $320 to change my water pump. After a few days the steering started to freeze up again. Went back. He said he will put a new pump instead of a remanufactured one but I would have to pay the difference. I said ok. After another $60 and a total of $380 whinning noise and power steering still not fixed properly. Went back only to be told that it is the steering rack.
He was not willing to change the pump again even the work is waranteed for 1 year. I went to a different mechanic he said it was the pump. Ordered the original and SURPRISE! the problem was fixed. Thought I would give a try to the neighborhood mechanic but I was wrong. Oh well.

Absolute worst. To take the time to review something for me trust me. Means something. The owner is a not only incompetent, he should not even come. Out from under the car. His social skills are unreal. I brought tire, yes a tire to be fixed. Took the car home woke up to find the tire flat again. I repeat he cannot even fix a flat. Total ripoff avoid avoid avoid.

First off the receptionist has awesome customer service skills. I took my car in with a misfire and over $600 later I drove away with a misfire. I was also ignored in my request no major work to be done without my OK first. The mechanic changed out a part that didnt even need replacing so I brought my car back realizing I still had a misfire and there was no offer to fix my car or look at it and he said it was probably a small thing like my wires. So.why not look into it further? But its okay I'll just never come back and write this review.

Only been here once so far. I got new tires put on my car. While they're not open on Saturdays, they open pretty early and close late enough that I can get there before or after work. They're a 1-mile walk from the Metra so I can leave my car and go to work. I saved almost $200 by getting my tires from them compared to another shop near me.
The receptionist is very nice (better customer service from her than most auto shops I've been to). I like that it's family owned. Didn't talk at all to the mechanic, so I can't give any input there. Will update after I've been there more times, if my opinion changes at all.

I was not happy with the service here. The receptionist was very delightful but the lead mechanic I believe his name was Jeff was not very nice. His customer service skills are @ a -10. I wanted to try a new mechanic being from the area but after the experience I'm going to stick with my regular mechanic. It might be more expensive but the service will be on point.
