When I opened my own shop in 1981, I set out to be a mechanic people would trust to keep their complex and expensive vehicles operating at their best for the long term. 000 worth of equipment to maintain and repair your vehicle. By providing expert repairs, impeccable personal service, and most importantly by respecting our clients, we've built a company that is unique in the automotive repair business.
Tom Dwyer Automotive Services is a full-service automotive repair and maintenance facility, offering everything from the simplest oil change to the most complex computer repair. That's rare in today's automotive market. Most shops tend to specialize in one particular type of repair, and avoid the responsibility and commitment of maintaining your whole vehicle.
It can be hard facing the world without wheels. How do you get around town when your vehicle is in the shop? Asking a friend is great and our Shuttle Service can help, but there's times when you just need your own wheels. We understand, so we've partnered with Enterprise Rent-a-Car to help keep you mobile.
While the vast majority of shops offer 12-month, 12,000-mile coverage, and an excellent warranty program may cover 18-months or 18,000-miles, we are so sure of the superior quality of our work that we stand behind it with one of the best warranties available anywhere. We will warranty our parts and workmanship for 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

****MODIFIED AFTER THE OWNER LEFT A COMMENT**** Do you really want to do business with someone like this? See how he tried to identify me on Yelp, putting details in his comment? (I reported it for privacy violations so Yelp might remove it). That's so unprofessional, yet consistent with my experience. Why does the owner argue with everyone who had a bad experience?
He could offer to do better, or even just apologize. He could learn from the comments and not make the same mistakes. Instead, the customer is the unreasonable one. There's no point in refuting his errors. You can see from his online behavior just what kind of operation this is. ****ORIGINAL POST**** They tried to upcharge me so much that they failed the "wife test", meaning I would not send my wife (who doesn't do much auto maintenance herself) to them without me being there.
She wouldn't know that they're trying to rip her off. Usually I do my own maintenance, but I'm a white-collar worker not a gearhead. This time, I thought I had a problem that was too big for me. I took it to Tom Dwyer, and it turned out to be something else that was easy to fix. They "recommended" $1200 to fix the problem, and also replace other parts that weren't broken, and then do routine maintenance that wasn't even due yet!
When I asked them to just fix the broken part, they said they wouldn't "waranty" the work unless I did the whole enchilada. I did the minimum anyway, and they still tacked on other charges that I refused to pay. They were super defensive when I asked them to just fix the problem. The worst part was that, when I got home and checked the work, they had done such a lazy job that I ended up re-doing the work myself.
I ended up fixing an adjacent part that they didn't touch but which would have caused the problem to recur. It took ~40 min of my time and only cost me $40 in parts from Amazon. My car runs much better now that I fixed their work. I would have let that slide and just grumbled to myself and neighbors about it, but they kept sending me "feedback" cards in the mail. Now, I receive something every other week from them. Annoyingly, their feedback cards all include a number, written in pen, so clearly they were trying to track their "annonymous" feedback. You don't need this headache. Find a better mechanic.

Tom Dwyer is creepy and may harass you (as he did to me). After receiving 4 mailings over 9 days asking for my "annonymous feedback, " but which included a hand-written number on them for identification, I finally posted a 1-star Yelp review, where I mentioned that they tried to upcharge me, and I was ultimately unsatisfied with the work that they did.
I mentioned all the junk mail. Pretty straight-forward review. Other people had commented on this same behavior. The owner responded by posting personal details about me and the problems with my car on Yelp, clearly violating my privacy. He massaged the story too, but you'd expect that, and it wasn't worth a point-by-point rebuttal. But I did reply to his reply to call out his unprofessional and aggressive behavior.
He responded within 10 min BY CALLING MY HOUSE. I screened his call. He'll likely reply to this post, as well, so you can judge from his defensiveness if this is the kind of mechanic that you would trust with your vehicle. Basically, the firm is pushy and aggressive, with some dodgy ethics, and you should just avoid them.

I managed to lock my keys and phone in my running car right outside of their shop. They were willing and able to help me right then and there and didn't even try to charge me anything. Great people, and I'm sure they would be a good place to get your car worked on. Sadly they won't work on mine as it's too old, but that's a different story.

I almost never leave a review anywhere; good or bad, but after bringing my car in here twice (for two separate issues), I can't not leave these guys a review. They were able to diagnose my electrical issue when another shop couldn't. They were competent, friendly, quick, and fair on pricing. I will never bring my car anywhere else. I highly, highly recommend Tom Dwyer.

I just took my Prius in for service and could not have been more impressed. I appreciate the honest and thorough report I received. The service was completed within estimate; it was completed on time; the work performed was explained in detail, and personnel were very courteous and professional. I was able to get an appointment within days of calling and staff kept me up to date on time lines. The overall repair costs were reasonable and better than expected. I will continue to use Tom Dwyer Auto Services as my "go to" for auto repair and maintenance.

Just found my local mechanic. Pretty darn happy with the service provided. I scheduled an appointment at a time that worked for me in advance, got my pickup truck in and out within the same day, and the truck now drives like a dream. I didn't have to sit there for 10 minutes getting up-sold on services I didn't want and I wasn't slammed with texts for other repairs I should consider. Yep, I know my truck has areas of improvement but the Tom Dwyer team was able to keep on task with the hot topic of the day without hassling me.
I didn't get that type of professionalism from the Toyota dealership the previous 5 years. Kyle was wide awake and courteous at 8AM and Dean had a great sense of humor both on and off the phone. Thanks Dean!

We've been going to Tom Dwyer's for several years. We're on our second car with them. They are tops in our book: honest, straightforward, no b-s, no upselling, no gold plating. Recently, our power rear door stopped working. We were traveling and brought the car in to the local dealer. They wanted to replace everything, for a total bill of about $1500.
We said thanks, but no thanks. Took it in to TD's, and they found the cause was ONE strut. The repair cost one-third what the dealer wanted. We're very happy with Tom and his crew. They're what you want in an auto repair shop.

Overpriced and tried to sell me on some preventative maintenance far before my vehicle's maintenance schedule. The business is in a gravel lot which was hard to navigate for my car. Not to mention it was covered in grease and dust when they were done. They should either lower their prices or offer a free car wash with service. Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Tires, Oil change, General repairs & maintenance, Air & cabin filter replacement

TOM DWYER WILL NOT WORK ON CARS THAT HAVE A BRANDED TITLE. I learned this after waiting in line for two weeks to get my started replaced. Once they received my car (not yet aware that my title is branded) they quoted me $850 to change out my starter. This quote sounded incredibly high so I shopped around and found multiple mechanics in town who quoted $450-$500.
On top of this they then tried to sell me on a laundry list of fixes including the classic "Your cabin air filter is dirty". When I called to have Tom Dwyer explain their pricing I mentioned that my title was salvaged in which case they explained to me that they will not even touch my car. I have never had another mechanic say this is an issue and nowhere on their site does it mention that this non-starter. After two weeks of waiting and accumulating 2 rounds of tow fees, I still have a car that will not start.

I found out about Tom Dwyer as recommended on Next Door. My yellow light had recently come up so I called for an appointment. I knew I had a lot of heavy hitter items on deck and so was a little nervous. Thankfully the estimate came in under what I was expecting so I moved forward with the work. I got the pleasure of working with Ken who was responsive and made sure I was clear about all the work costs and why it was needed. I had a great experience with them.

I just got off the phone with Kyle, and he was really unaccommodating. I work Monday-Friday and I asked how late in the day they were open and he said he didn't like to take cars in later in the day. He said that I could drop it off one late afternoon so they could work on it the next morning, which I would have been fine with, but he seemed like he really didn't want to do that.
So I asked if I could bring my car in Friday at noon and he said he didn't like to take cars in on Friday because they couldn't order parts until Monday. He basically said that unless I can bring it in during a weekday morning, he couldn't help. Real bummer.

I really appreciate this place! They are honest and dependable. I've worked with Dean each time I go in there and am always leaving feeling really well taken care of. This morning Dean went over each line item with me so I could make sure it was all within my budget. That kind of assistance and care is invaluable to me. My car gets picked up tomorrow so I took a Lyft home and sold my Lyft driver on Tom Dwyer.
They are that fantastic! Also, it's worth noting they were recommended to me by a friend who was in the business of fixing and flipping cars for a while and that was her go to place if she couldn't fix the issue herself! Highly recommend.

Discovered Tom Dwyer after moving to Sellwood from NE Portland. Job done right the first time for a very fair price. Have been back a few times since and really like doing business with these guys. Upfront, honest, and thorough. So happy to have found our go-to local repair shop! Thank you TD Automotive & staff! Service: General repairs & maintenance

My 2007 Toyota Prius had very dim lights, or so it seemed to me. I checked with several auto repair places, all of whom said that it would be expensive to fix (2007 Prius lights are expensive, and difficult to change). Typical range suggested was $350-1200. After reading Yelp reviews, I called Tom Dwyer. They said it could be many things, thought that the headlight lenses might be partially opaque, and they quoted $107 for the service to sand them clear.
When I picked up the car, they said the lenses were only a little opaque, but the main problem was the lights were severely mis-aligned. They aligned them properly, and sanded the lenses besides, for the original quote of $107. Lights are good again! Appreciate the honesty and level of service. Definitely will come back again!

Caught up on a long overdo oil change and various other maintenance opportunities with my Outback. My wife has been a customer for years and I finally converted over to team TD. Outstanding service and honest assessment of repair down the road while providing good value. Also, Tom and his team are COVID safe and demonstrate respect and care for me, the customer. Thank you.

My mom found Tom Dwyer through recommendations on Nextdoor. She was very happy with their service on her Prius especially since she's always nervous about being overcharged. (Let's not pretend that's not a problem with some mechanics.) Next a friend went, equally happy with her service. We took our Toyota Highlander when it needed routine service and they said they don't do that!
They do an evaluation and decide what needs to be serviced instead of just following the guidelines and replacing things that are just fine. We needed new brakes (which I already suspected) and their price was right in the appropriate range. They also solved an ongoing mystery: the tire pressure light was always on, despite checking our tires many times. Turns out the spare has a sensor and it was low! I had no idea. I highly recommend them.

I recently brought my car to Tom Dwyer to have a puncture in my tire fixed. I called in the morning and they were able to get me in the same day. They removed a gnarly screw, patched the hole, and only charged $15. Their staff was kind and professional, and they wore masks while in the office which I appreciated very much. I absolutely recommend them to anyone in the area!

We've been using Tom Dwyer Automotive services for somewhere around 10 years I'd say. We've always left happy with our interaction and confident the work was done well at a fair price. I can recall only one minor issue that arose from a miscommunication and when I brought it up it was resolved in my favor with no discussion needed. It's nice to not feel anxious about car repairs. I recommend them highly.

Been going to Tom Dwyer for years now and there are few better things in life than knowing you can trust your mechanics. I recently had a coolant valve issue that they fixed -- and when the issue reappeared they fixed it again at no charge. Thanks Tom Dwyer! I've recommended them to all sorts of friends. Bonus points for the killer rock collection.

This was my first time going into Tom Dwyer and of course it was due to a car emergency. I didn't hesitate picking this place. 1) It's in my neighborhood 2) it came reccomended from a friend. They were friendly and professional. Kyle called each day to give me an update on my car and even though I know nothing about vehicles, he was able to explain it to me without being condescending which I appreciated. Price wise, I thought it was fair. This will be my car mechanic going forward!
