Founded in 1946 by Robert Cooper and his son Keith, Cooper's Auto Service opened business in Portland out of a leased Atlantic Richfield gas station on 17th and SE Powell Blvd. The idea behind starting a small business at that time was as much out of necessity as it was a passion for cars.
Cooper's Auto Service is dedicated to responsible business practices and ethical materials recycling. Drained Oils (crank case, diesel, gear oil, gasoline): Blended for energy recovery and remanufacturing. By recycling these materials we minimize the burden on local landfills, and make a positive impact on the environment we share.
Cooper's Auto Service is E X C E L L E N T! They really are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and friendly. My family has been taking our cars to them for several years and so we know that they are dependable. Their prices are fair and they discuss potential problems with our cars ahead of time, so that we can take steps to prevent them.
Should the person you recommend employ services from Cooper's Auto Service, you as the referring customer will receive a $25 off coupon for your next service. NOTE: Use of the $25 coupon on a service totaling less than the awarded amount, will not result in a cash-out balance. This coupon cannot be used in conjunction with other discounts, and has a one year expiration date from the time of referral.

I had a customer go into this shop had a code for thermostat temp the thermostat was hollowed out by previous owner. They said it needed a new motor and that if they put a new thermostat in the car would overheat. Fast forward a couple hours low and behold new thermostat is in drove for an hr and no over heating and no check engine light. you should have just tried the simple stuff guys I know you think worse case scenario all the time but that's not always the case.

This feels like the dad I never had fixing my car for me. They are very good about remembering the needs of your vehicle, letting you know about what might need to be fixed and prioritizing the needs for you. They are communicative and reliable. If I have any questions they talk to me about it but not in a condescending way some mechanics tend to talk to women about cars. They even vacuum the front floorboards for me which is so nice!

Coopers is a M-F place, which is a bit of a bummer but they work with you on drop off and pick up times/methods. We have used them since we moved to the east side of Portland in 2006, and my in laws for years before that. It's a quality shop-not the cheapest, not the most expensive. They stick to their price estimates, back their work and give you a fair and honest response on repairs.

They have worked on many cars for us and have even given us recommendations when buying "budget friendly" cars for our up and coming drivers. Do you have AAA? Make sure you mention so you get their discount.

The mechanic at the shop watched a tow truck park my car in their garage, watched as the tow truck driver pulled away, and then told me they wouldn't take my car bc they were too busy and that the car needed to be moved before they closed in ten minutes. The guy was extremely rude and unhelpful and I do not recommend their services.

I got over 5,000$ worth of work done here 3 years ago, and a part of that work was replacing both of my front control arms. When they were replacing the control arms they noticed the ball joints connecting them were rusting and going bad, but didn't notify me of this until after the work was done, and proceeded to try and reassure me it would be fine while I was paying.

Well 3 years later and I need to get my struts replaced, but the ball joint is rusted and cemented onto the newish control arm, and now I have to spend another 250$ replacing a control arm that was perfectly good, plus I had already spent a bunch of money to get that exact part replaced at coopers 3 years prior to this. The new mechanic had to cut the ball joint off, resulting in needing to replace the control arm attached to it. Coopers you failed me.

You need to notify customers of parts going bad BEFORE you perform labor and reinstall the bad parts. I could have paid coopers a smidge more to replace the ball joints, and not have to spend another 250$ on my control arms. Your negligence cost me money I didn't need to spend. I'm very disappointed. I don't trust you to not reinstall faulty parts.

These guys squeezed my car in with no appointment for a starter motor, and they got me out the same day! So fast, reasonably priced and friendly!

Cooper's is a legit auto shop. Rich went out of his way to be helpful and work with me on what was best for the car (and my wallet). Due to the level of service and quality of work, I will def be taking my car here from now on.

USE THIS PLACE! Seriously the best! Honest, friendly, trustworthy and quality. Even when I went in telling them I needed something done Bc another place told me so, they checked my car out and told me I really didn't need to, saving me hundreds. What more could you ask for in your mechanic?

Did not use Coopers Auto Service. When speaking to mechanic getting quote, the first thing mentioned was more work was probably needed than I requested. So, instead of spending 100's This mom spent $22. And did it myself after learning how on a YouTube video. One star rating due to off-putting quote that was already more than others combined with low cost of doing it myself.

My first experience with Cooper's Auto Service has been a great one! With an over-heating car in a city where I know no mechanics, I found these guys online at the AAA website and gave them a call. They're booked a couple weeks out so I had to wait to get my vehicle in but the wait was worth it. Fortunately I had a car I could borrow in the meantime and if you're someone who doesn't have that luxury, waiting to get in to them can be a deal-breaker.

I spoke with an older woman in the lobby, another customer, who has been bringing her vehicles here since the 80s and another woman who's been coming here for 10 years - both of them rated Cooper's highly and as an older single woman myself, having a good mechanic is like having a treasure in gold stashed under your bed. I felt like I was in good hands even before getting any work done. Cooper's completed the work and returned my vehicle with vacuumed carpets!

At their request, I've scheduled a follow-up visit for a re-check of the AC work they did (to see if it's leaking, etc.). I'm completely satisfied with the work they did on my vehicle, hence the 5-star rating. The only thing I'm not very happy with is the amount of wait time before I could even get in to see them; I suppose that's a sign that they're *that* good but I wish they weren't so busy.

Excellent! They got my car in and out in one day. I would totally recommend them. I got the run around with 4 other auto dealers prior to being told by friends to go to Coopers. So glad I did. Btw, they did an interior clean.who DOES that? Especially when the only "problem" was an air filter change. I thought it might be my transmission because of the reading on the gauge.

Oh my gosh! I cannot say enough great things about this place! I have always been pretty skeptical about auto service shops because they can be pretty shady but I truly believe I have finally found a legit honest place! They were extremely welcoming and didn't try to push anything! The owner Richard, he is a true gem! I just adore him! Such a wonderful soul! I will not go anywhere else for now on!

Thank you Cooper's! I had a lot of things wrong with my car and she needed some serious work. The staff were very kind, and able to get me scheduled promptly. Oftentimes when I take my car serviced I feel as though the employees take advantage of my lack of knowledge and it makes me hesitant to take it in, but these guys weren't that way at all!

They were incredibly respectful, explained to me what the next steps were, and quoted me a reasonable fee. When everything was finished, it even cost a little less than they had said! My car has been running great, and I am forever grateful for their services and experience. I even just received some coupons in the mail from these guys for my next visit, and I'll definitely be coming back.

I honestly can't express how much I love coopers. I have been going to them for at least 15 years with various cars for various things. They are always honest about what needs done and never pushy. They just put breaks on my truck. Thanks Coopers!

This review is long overdue. I've been using Cooper's for about 5 years now to service all 4 of our families vehicles. I don't hand out 5 star reviews freely, but this one is well deserved. I moved to the Portland area 11 years ago and struggled to find a good shop the first 5 or 6 years that I trusted. These guys are fair, honest and won't try to up sale you on repairs.

If it can wait, they'll tell you it can wait and won't put fear into you to force a larger bill. I've spent thousands of dollars in maintenance and repairs at this place and the work has always been superior. Vey professional and great customer service is something you can count on. I've priced out many jobs at my old shops and Cooper's always has better cost per job. I plan to be a long time customer at Cooper's and would highly recommend this shop to anyone!

I have used these guys for years and on a number of things, from just an oil change to more complicated repairs and each time has been a good experience. I don't feel like I'm being sold things I need, they explain the repairs, and the turn around times are very reasonable. I would highly recommend them.

I found Cooper's via AAA. Looking for a mechanic closer to me and they have done nothing but good for me. Recommended I take my car to the dealer with a recent transmission issue as it was still under warranty, and so I did and the entirety of the repair was at no cost to me. I received a thank you card and 25% off in the mail after my first visit and I've just been very pleased as dealing with car issues is usually a stressor for me.

Stereotypical rip-off car mechanics. Paid for what I thought was a complete repair ($1600), only to find out the car needed more work. Cooper's quoted an additional $800. Got the car fixed elsewhere for $145. Cooper's also takes FOREVER. I drive for a living so I cannot be out of commission. Find someone else to repair your car who's honest, efficient and kind. Cooper's is none of those.

I cannot stress enough how fantastic and easy these guys were to work with. I had a check engine light issue that 2 other automotive places sort of dismissed and said was t really a problem. I took it to Cooper's, 2 hours after drop off I had a call with the issues that needed to be fixed and few hours later it was done. I was incredibly appreciative of how honest and upfront they were.

Since my car is older/higher mileage they advised me of a few things to watch out for/check on. I'm very happy with my experience here and will be bringing my vehicles here for service from now on.

These guys are awesome. They are great about keeping records for your vehicles and tracking repairs that need to be made in the future. They are extremely fair in pricing and even offer shuttle service if you need it.

Thankful Cooper's had the records from when my grandma took her (now my) car there for service 4 years ago. They were able to help me figure out if I was getting the right advice now that I'm in Colorado. Candace explained what the shop here is suggesting and how that matches up to what was done before. Really helpful!

I have used Cooper's Auto Service in the past and would say the service was fair, but what's has happened to Cooper's? I recently took my Subaru in for repairs and was very surprised at how expensive their rates were. They did call me to let me know it would be over $800 for a starter, alternator and battery which blew me away! They said the starter was still ok for now but could go at anytime.

So replacing the alternator and battery was all I could do that day. My total $ 456. 00. Now a little over 2 months my car will not start. So my husband goes back to Cooper's reference the battery being toast. Corry told my husband sometimes that happens and we will take care of it, then when he went to find a battery like ours they were out.

Then Corry explained how he would prorate the battery and we would have to pay for a new one. This did not set well with my husband. After further discussion Corry did the right thing and replaced our battery. I'm Not coming back. No one should be put through the ringer for wanting you to stand behind your product and service. A little advise for Cooper's 1. Don't bash and talk trash about your customer after you speak to them on the phone.

Not good customer service.no one wants to hear your opinion of how stupid they are because they don't like your high prices. 2, Get over yourself. Just because you've been in business for a long time doesn't mean your are the best. 3. Get some help.

We've been going to them for years for repairs and routine maintenance on our '01 Honda Civic. They've kept the car running well for us. Cost of maintenance and repairs has always been very reasonable. They've regularly discouraged me from doing unnecessary repairs. Recently, when a weird clutch issue proved to be more complicated than they anticipated, they bent over backwards to prevent the saga from becoming a huge hassle and inconvenience to us, and even waived the cost on account of the hassle and our "faithful business". I felt they went above and beyond. I'm not one who cares much about loyalty to a brand or business, but Coopers is becoming the exception to me.

I've been meaning to write a review, because Cooper's is awesome! Reliable, friendly, reasonable rates. They've repaired my '96 Jeep Cherokee several times and each time did a great job. Most recently, my 98 Honda Odyssey needed a new battery and they replaced it cheap and then washed my car and vacuumed the front AND THE BACK. Ok, so I know that vacuuming isn't really a mechanic's job, but this tired mama was so thrilled. Thanks Cooper's for always being there when I need you. You rock!

I was having trouble with my car on a Saturday afternoon 11/19/11 across the street from Cooper's. I went across the street to try and get what I needed and noticed the sign said they were closed on Saturday and Sunday, but there was a guy behind the counter that looked like he was maybe looking for parts from a book and the shelves or something so I knocked to see if he could maybe help me out.

Now I realize it is a Saturday and the sign said closed, but the guy would not even come to the door when I knocked. He just looked at me and went to the back of the store in the parts shelving area. I just thought if someone is there they could at least come to the door and see what was going on being it is an automotive type place.

This place is as good as it gets. I found them knowledgable, fair, and fast. I go there for all my car needs, from oil changes to major engine work. They seem unbiased when recommending for or against some work and help me weigh the pros and cons. Sometimes they actually argue against having certain work done or give me good pros and cons to help me decide. Bottom line, no pressure. Once they diagnosed my car with a problem only the dealer could fix. No charge. That is honest and fair.
